DOUGAL & RIOT'S AGILITY TRAINING What We Do ![]() Classes are held twice a week on Monday and Thursday evenings and are safely enclosed in an indoor riding school. Each class is composed of dogs at roughly the same standard of development and numbers are limited to six dogs and their handlers to ensure everybody gets individual attention. Beginners are very welcome. All our training is positive and reward based, the emphasis is on making things enjoyable for dog and handler. No dog (or person) is pushed to do anything they are not comfortable with. Who Can Join Us Any physically fit dog, regardless of their size, can be taught to do agility. Jump heights are adjusted according to whether the dog is a Corgi or a Labrador or something in between. DRAT has a lovely mixture of breeds including Trail Hounds and a Basset. Nearly all dogs enjoy agility - jumping, scrambling over obstacles and burrowing through tunnels comes naturally to them. Nervous dogs can gain confidence from learning to do something exciting, independently from their owner. Confident and outgoing dogs can have their energy channelled into a harmless activity. Dogs must be at least one year old to start training on the agility obstacles but you can do lots of foundation work while you are waiting to reach this point. Teaching your dog to sit, down and stay will all be invaluable assets and good recalls and 'send aways' are a great help. |
